‍ ‍BIOGRAPHY

Amy knew she was meant to be a singer by around the age of seven. “As a child, I would sing into an imaginary microphone and pretend the helicopter searchlight or the full moon was a stage spotlight. I was named after my godmother, Amalia Mendoza. She was a well-known singer in Mexico that my mother was friends with. I was along for soundcheck during a concert she had at the Arizona State Fairgrounds. It was amazing to look out over the vast arena from the stage! That’s likely what had the biggest effect on me thinking about becoming a performer.”

After picking up the guitar at 14 years of age, Amy was playing every chance she got. Starting out on acoustic guitar and then gravitating to electric, Amy ceaselessly honed her playing ability. She was on the music scene throughout the 80s and 90s from Phoenix, Arizona to southern and central California, playing in hard rock bands.

While playing guitar backstage at an Eric Johnson concert, Amy met Michael Schenker, who was quite impressed with her playing and singing ability. The Schugar Schenker “Under Construction” album was the result and Amy was added to a scheduled MSG tour to help support the new collaboration.
